    Auchentoshan Three Wood

A Lowland single malt matured in 3 different casks, namely: Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks, bourbon casks and Oloroso Sherry casks. A distinctive triple distilled whisky from Auchentoshan.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Cooked fruit, sherry, toffee, a rum-like quality and notes of Bas Armagnac distilled circa 1940.

    Palate

Rich. Liqueur cherries in dark chocolate, more sherried fruit, ripe dark forest fruits, like a Black Forest Gateaux.

    Finish

Superb, led by thick dark treacle and toffee notes and chewy wooded notes, balanced with a green fruit edge.

    One of the best

With every bottle, this slowly makes it’s way up to the top spot. Such a lovely, deep, sweet and complex dram and a total wonder of a lowland malt. Definitely leans towards a bourbon. Just give your glass a whiff after you’ve finished and it smells unbelievable, like a smokey wood cabin.

    Forget Macallan

Wonderful strong caramel, sweet sherry nose. None of that horrific Macallan Sulphur. Palate is sweet and Sherried, but with delicious undertones of bitter coffee and dark chocolate alongside that deep cherry Christmas cake Flavour. Quite sumptuous without being over Sherrie. Not a bad match to Glenmorangie Signet for less than half the price.

    Beautiful and unique lowland scotch.

I’ve never been a fan of heavily peated single malts. In fact, my preference is for single pot still whiskys like Redbreast or Green Spot or Bourbons (I do like things on the sweet side). A suggestion came to try the lowland malts. That led me to Auchentoshan. I’ve tried all in their line and found this one the best. Mellow, sweet (but certainly not overly-sweet) and woody as the day is long. Beautiful balance. This has earned its place in the cabinet.

    Lovely everyday bottle

Lovey whiskey for bourbon lovers. Excellent every day dram or diversion bottle.

    A smoky bourbon from Glasgow

I’d describe it as a smoky bourbon, but with a lingering finish. The sherry casks come through with a sweetness that doesn’t take away from the fact that you’re drinking a single malt scotch.
