Auchentoshan
Released for Travel Retail, the Auchentoshan Heartwood is a triple-distilled single malt Scotch whisky which has been matured in both oloroso sherry and bourbon casks, resulting in a very well-balanced expression from the Lowland distillery. Nice big litre bottle too!

Fresh honey and candied orange peels, with hints of dark coffee and pear drops.
Nuttier than the nose, it's got a core of hazelnut and almond, surrounded by chocolate buttons, apple and fresh ground coffee again.
Dried fruit and citrus lasts.
Oh dear, how can my local distillery do this? It's the triplewood with some old junk casks added. Really shocked that this stuff was called Auchentoshan. The staff must be scunnered by what Suntori tell them to do.
My first impression was that it was Triple Wood with some older sherry and assorted casks added at the end of their three fill life. Not great from my local distillery. It's ok, but there's many better at a lesser price.

Airport version of the available Auchentoshan. It has a rich nose with notes of chocolate, rosewood, molasses. The complexity is addictive and I couldn't help spending more time that usual in admiring it. The tasting notes had plum, peaches and it culminated with a short finish of dry fruits. For me it's the nose that really stands out. Otherwise a smooth drink.
