    Auchentoshan American Oak

From the Auchentoshan distillery in the Scottish Lowlands comes a triple distilled single malt Scotch whisky aged entirely in first fill American oak casks. A light, bright whisky with plenty of vanilla sweetness at its centre - great as an aperitif dram.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Oranges and lemons, toffee chunks and milk chocolate. Wafts of grassy air and clotted cream.

    Palate

Bounty bars, more citrus peels and peaches. A little bit buttery, with golden barley and oak spice developing on the mid palate.

    Finish

Lasting notes of grapefruit and toffee pennies.

    A great light whisky

Not my usual dram, i'm much more into heavily peated islay's, however, for what this is It's great, lovely finish and relatively cheap.

Gets better as you drink it with a great finish.

I purchased some from a supermarket at Christmas last year (apologies to our site owners!) as a sort of aperitif to finish off Christmas Day and New Years off with (I can't do without a tot of whisky - or two- during the festive season) and I was pleasantly surprised at how smooth and light it was. It does definitely lack a little *something* compared to the more complex single malts I've had, so I can't give it 5 stars, but if you want something to pull out of the cupboard when a friend comes round or for a quiet night in, you absolutely will not go wrong.

    Brilliant taste of oaky scotch

Bought as a birthday gift by my eldest son, this whisky was a delight to the taste and exactly what I like to drink. Having just got to the final drop of a macallan 18 year old, I thought it was an impossible act to follow but it did great!! Highly recommended

    not all experiments are good

I like bourbon I love scotch I have never thought to myself "boy I wish this single malt scotch tasted like bourbon". Having tried American oak, I'm glad. Mostly flavourless, or at least lacking the character I associate with scotch, and harsh on the nose. It is redeemed by is warming ending and subtle lingering flavours
