    Auchentoshan 44 Year Old 1966

An Auchentoshan from the year England won the World Cup boasting an almighty forty-four years of ageing and presented in a beautiful bottle and box. Grand stuff!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

A eucalyptus aroma emerges first followed by acacia honey and Christmas cake.

    Palate

The mouth-feel is incredibly soft and sweet with honey and mead notes followed by a distant herbaceousness.

    Finish

The finish is long, fresh and minty.

    Overall

Such complex honey notes along with the vitality of mint make for an amazingly well-aged Auchentoshan.

    Over The Line?

To be honest I bought this bottle because of the date- 1966 - as a special treat for my friends in Ashington Northumberland home of the Charlton Brothers 2 of England's World Cup heroes! It was not too expensive at £4k so it was not rationed. It is a very soft minty yet complex whisky which like some of the class of '66 has aged very well. Certainly worth a punt and recommended Robert Swinhoe

    Depends on the occasion!

Usually being a rye man, I was apprehensive when trying this whiskey... since it was offered to me by a close friend i thought i would give it a shot. First taste was disarming and to be honest since it was my friend's favourite whiskey I felt obliged to to give a positive report. However the second taste was much better. Seeing that it was moderately expensive he exclaimed that he did not want to waste it. It was a while before i had the chance to try it again... A couple of years later during the reception for the renewal of my wedding vows this same friend presented me with a gift of this whiskey. I was very grateful for the extravagant gesture.... It was a few months after this occasion that i had my second encounter with the 1966 Auchentoshan, or so i thought.... It transpired that the whiskey i mistook for the 1966 Auchentoshan was actually another which i enjoyed!
