Arran The Bothy Bottling Note

Arran's The Bothy single malt has joined the Island distillery's permanent range! Matured initially in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, this expression is finished for two years in quarter casks, which are much smaller than your average run-of-the-mill cask. Finally, it's bottled at a generous 56.2% ABV.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Honeyed malt balanced by oaky spice and a whiff of bright citrus.

Palate: Coconut and almond, followed by apricot and pineapple. Black pepper and menthol.

Finish: Lingering cherry and cinnamon on the finish.

Reviews for Arran The Bothy Quarter Cask
Very good.
A solid, strong whisky with bite, & even though it has no smoke or peaty character, (which I'll admit I have a bias towards,) this is a worthwhile investment and a very good bottle to try and certainly enjoy.
Honey notes upon entry with a sharp, strong but not unpleasant afterburn, this is one damn fine whisky! Well done, Arran!

Character and Complex...
So...I'm no whisky expert but having experimented with a good few, my sweet spot whisky's are either a Balevenie 12 Double Wood, or my fave which is the Arran 10 Year...so after reading these reviews had to try the Arran 'The Bothy'. With the higher abv it definitely benefits from a drop of water...but I most call out the glorious tropical waves of flavour, which fade into a slight smokey heat. Its delicious. If I give the Arran 10 Year a 5 star due to its beautiful sweet balance, this gets a 4.5...more character and more complex...more challenging.

The Bothy is now 1 of the 3 bottles always in my drinks cabinet...great work!

Best NAS around
This isn’t just the best NAS whisky on the market, it is probably the best value for money you will find also. A really nice drop, better than many age statement whiskies I’ve had. I prefer it to the Arran 10, but nothing can ever top their 18, that stuff is a work of art. Still though, any whisky drinker whether experienced or not will enjoy this one. Good old reliable Arran!

Best value bottle I know of
£47 is an absolutely steal! A beautiful cask strength candied oaked flavour bomb - absolutely delicious. Touch of water takes it to a totally welcome alternative place, maybe even better. Possibly the best value bottle I know.

Sweet oak bomb
I'm really enjoying this intense, sweet, warming dram. It's a proper little oak bomb with the sweet (clear honey for me), fragrant American oak from the barrels rich and dominant on the nose and palate. Towards the middle-end I get bitter dark chocolate too. A bit more water reveals more fruit like pineapple maybe but it's subtle. While not the most complex of whiskies, it's very moorish. At around £45 for a quality cask strength bottle from an independent distillery, this is very good value in my opinion.

Excellent whisky at a great price!
This stuff really is great! At 56.2% it definitely is improved by a little splash of water and some time resting in the glass but if you give it that you'll be rewarded with some really nice caramel notes on the nose and the same on the palate with a hint of sea salt.

Definitely benefits from a touch of water
Am not an advocate of watering whisky but this really benefits the flavour and seems to make it more viscous and the flavour lingers long. Drunk straight, it is ultra smooth ..no hint of its alcohol content. Looking forward to trying the Arran Bodega.

Permanently in my collection
Arran distillery have made themselves a name for their fantastic consistency over the years and this doesn’t disappoint. The generous ABV makes up for the no age statement (NAS is proving to be popular these days anyway) as there’s still some complexity revealed with water added.
Can’t add any more than than the tasting notes above, this is lovely and at the time of writing an absolute steal at £40. I expect this to be more expensive in future as demand increases.
