Sherry

The third release in Arran's White Stag series is a 21 year old single malt drawn from a pair of sherry hogsheads. It was bottled in September 2017 with an outturn of 695, all adorned with a rather distracted-looking stag. Maybe it's seen some tasty berries somewhere...?

Pronounced, expressive and balanced. Delicate spices are evident, with notes of vanilla and honey adding a layer of intensity. The sweet oak is balanced by a salty tang and coastal note at the back. Elegant and intriguing.
Ripe fruits and flowery sweetness prevail in the initial mouthfeel. It develops in intensity with richer notes of dark chocolate, marzipan and Christmas cake. The influence of the oak gives further depth with tobacco and a hint of coffee. A true delight for the senses.
Whilst long-lasting and satisfying, this whisky reveals its gentler and sweeter side once again in the finish. Enduring depth with a touch of spice makes this dram evocative of a Christmas evening on the island, the warmth of the dram washed by the coastal notes of the sea. A real journey which requires as much thinking as it does drinking.
