    Single Malt

    Arran 21 Year Old

This well-aged single malt from Arran makes up part of the distillery's core range, bottled at a hearty 21 years old. It's matured for over two decades exclusively in sherry butts, before it's bottled up at an approachable 46% ABV. The sherried Island whisky is packed full of dark chocolate and a good dose of spice.

    Perfection

Simply outstanding. An iconic island dram.

Very nice, but there are better

In nose, this is incredibly similar to the Glenrothes 18, which is considerably cheaper and arguably better. Palate wise, similar too, albeit the Glenrothes is smoother and more viscous, probably due to a slightly lower alcohol content. Overall it's very good, but I'd go for the Glenrothes, unless I was on a tighter budget and is get the amazing Glenallachie 15.

    Too hot and fiery

Not smooth at all, I let the dram stand and also added water and even after my palate was hammered by a supper of Indian curries I found this dram too hot and fiery.

    Jeremy Hollis Jun 1, 2021

The prominent spice disguises a seductive and very morish whisky.

I bought a bottle of this locally and I was expecting a smooth and honey like whisky, but this false anticipation of mine ruined my first dram. It was my own fault because I confused this lack of smoothness with the very prominent ginger which brings a lot of spice to your palate and you quickly start to identify a rather subtle yet complex whisky. Subsequent drams allow your palate to settle and adjust; this is where the real magic can be found. The lingering and morish tingle will tantalise you into a flight as you plough through the bottle at an alarming rate. Be warned; this whisky is very good at hiding its seductive qualities and you will pay dearly for the pleasure.
