Ardnamurchan 2017 (bottled 2023) (cask 374) - Collective #1: The Pioneers (Berry Bros. & Rudd)

Ardnamurchan is backed by the famous Adelphi Scotch whisky brand and is committed to sustainable processes, like a biomass boiler fed by its own managed forest providing hot water and its hydroelectric power supply. It's these initiatives that have led it to be included in the Collective #1: The Pioneers series by Berry Bros. & Rudd. This single malt Scotch whisky was distilled in 2017 and then matured in a single sherry hogshead (cask 374) before it was bottled, natural colour and no chill-filtration, at 59.7% ABV in 2023.

    Tasting Note by The Producer

    Nose

The nose opens with vibrant aromas of bacon fat and cocoa powder lunging from the glass.

    Palate

The palate follows suit with flavours of smokey bacon, farmyard, tea leaves, and warm blackcurrants. It is a masterclass in peaty complexity.

    Finish

More dark cocoa shows on the finish with lingering smoke.

    Overall

This is a powerful statement from the young distillery, perhaps Brora’s baby brother.
