A 2015 addition to the Ardmore range - this 12 year old single malt was initially matured in American white oak bourbon casks before being transferred over to Port pipes for a finishing period. Its time in the Port pipes has imparted wine-like sweetness to the whisky, with further hints of juicy grape and flamed orange peel along the way.
Old-fashioned peatiness on the nose, quickly joined by summer berries, red grapes and old oak.
Flamed orange peel and mellow peat up front, joined by a little vanilla from the bourbon casks.
A light, honey'd finish, with a final flash of wine sweetness.
£6.98 - £75.93
Very nice and light despite 46% ABV. Very fruity with a nice touch of smoke. Delicate nose with layers of fruit and oak. On the palate, you get fruit, brown sugar and smoke. It is very complex and well-rounded for a 12. The finish is very sweet. Taking into consideration the price, this is superb.
This bottle can easily compete with bottles that worth 200 bucks and more! Perfect balancing, immediate rewarding, 46 ABV gentle effect, one of the best port wood finish in the whole market considering the price.
Extremely good dram, especially for what it offers considering the price and being just a 12 YO!
This is a really enjoyable port wood expression. Unlike some other whiskies finished in port casks this has a bright, lively, slightly fruity taste. The underlying 12 year old Ardmore is a great full-bodied, richly flavoured whisky. Finishing it in port casks brings it to life, making a great whisky to enjoy on a summer's evening.
