The 2007 release of this 'Traditional Cask' was the first official single malt from the Ardmore distillery, this is a young whisky, but it was aged in quarter casks, which proffers a speedy maturation thus discounting its youth.
Full of caramel. Toasted oak is evident and rich and just the faintest peat has muscled its way through.
Lots of barley and cereal notes, oodles of rich bourbon, smoke and peat still present. Charming interplay through the caramel sweetness and the vanilla spiced oak.
Has a sharp edge, more caramel and sugary barley notes and a lanolin smoothness and more tapering smoke.
I got a bottle as it was only £22 in Tesco. The tube description appealed to my tastes for peaty malts so that swung it. It's certainly peaty although it has more 'heat' than peaty malts like Laphroaig. This was probably predictable with it being a highland, but there isn't the 'heat' of other Speyside malts like the Glenfiddich. I've broken protocol by adding a cube of ice and that's made it very palatable indeed. 7 rating and worth buying again.
I bought this as an entry into peated whisky. Reviews suggested this was gently peated so I thought it was ideal starter. Big mistake. Very strong TCP nose which continued onto the palate. Barely drinkable for me. It has mellowed slighty since the bottle was opened but not enough. I'll give this 6/10 as it would be unfair to mark it too lowly if it is simply not to my taste.
Really enjoyed this one. Sweet with a bit of peat. I prefer a a heavily peated whisky, but i also enjoy the speyside whiskies, this bottle is very moreish!
Peaty with vanilla undertones,whoever thinks this is vile should stick to putting coke in theur drinks
Tastes like TCP. Undrinkable.Waste of money.
