    Ardbeg Uigeadail

This stunning expression from Islay's Ardbeg distillery on the Kildalton Coast is named after a nearby loch (pronounced "Oog-a-dal"). It's the perfect example of how sweet and savoury notes can work together spectacularly - you'll find Ardbeg's maritime salinity intact here, combined with dried fruit notes imparted by time spent in sherry casks. Kind of like when you mix sweet popcorn and salty popcorn together, it results in something absolutely wonderful.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Multifaceted, notes of peat and little flourishes of dark sugar, freshly ground espresso beans, cereal notes and a most sophisticated tar.

    Palate

Led by sweet, ripe fruit and black forest honey. A good helping of malt. The throne then usurped by a powerful peat and smoked barley.

    Finish

Very long, caramel and malt weave their way through peat smoke and dark sugar and just a hint of fresh espresso coffee before it finally peters out.

    Overall

Such deft balance! How wonderful to sample Ardbeg so beautifully complimented by sherry.

A malt that keeps on giving

    Reviews for Ardbeg Uigeadail

Given its ABV, this is very approachable stuff with a flavour profile combining buttery sweetness (I get cookie dough & marzipan on the in-breath..?) and plenty of dark peat smoke. The nose is a ridiculously alluring umami/salty meatiness, which makes the subsequent sweetness on the palate so striking. But it works - it really does. The finish is long and brings everything together nicely – satisfyingly dry and numbing but without overpowering. A nightcap to sip slowly and deliberately.

    Memories

This is so tasty, sounds silly but this triggers memories, actual and imagined, colours, puddles of petrol on the industrial estate I used to work on,not as in your face as BizarreBQ, which I loved,I like this, alot!

    Slow burn

Ardberg 10 is one of my favourites so I thought I'd treat myself to the next evolution and get this. I'll be honest, on first sip I just wasn't getting it, it was good but not worth the praise it seems to get. After leaving it to air out a bit I realised I was too hasty, this one needs time to breathe, and does it ever reward you for your patience. Smooth, complex and moreish, this one takes you on a ride. Very very good.

I was massively impressed by this whisky. I had read and watched plenty of reviews, all of them saying this is the one to go for. I tried it with a friend and the finish was so great that when we both took a sip, we paused and then it hit us! Wow, what a whisky.
