This stunning expression from Islay's Ardbeg distillery on the Kildalton Coast is named after a nearby loch (pronounced "Oog-a-dal"). It's the perfect example of how sweet and savoury notes can work together spectacularly - you'll find Ardbeg's maritime salinity intact here, combined with dried fruit notes imparted by time spent in sherry casks. Kind of like when you mix sweet popcorn and salty popcorn together, it results in something absolutely wonderful.
Multifaceted, notes of peat and little flourishes of dark sugar, freshly ground espresso beans, cereal notes and a most sophisticated tar.
Led by sweet, ripe fruit and black forest honey. A good helping of malt. The throne then usurped by a powerful peat and smoked barley.
Very long, caramel and malt weave their way through peat smoke and dark sugar and just a hint of fresh espresso coffee before it finally peters out.
Such deft balance! How wonderful to sample Ardbeg so beautifully complimented by sherry.

To the reviewer below - a certain Ron from Texas - please be aware that everyone's views and ratings are valid. Just because you don't happen to agree then that does NOT mean that another's review should be removed. Of course Texas is not renowned for being a great believer in the opinions of others.
What incredible flavours and mouth feel. So silky and supple. Its an explosion of flavour when it hit your mouth intensely enveloping it. how dare some mix this with flavoured sodas?!?! It's an insult to the expert craftsmanship that has gone into this very fine product.
I just got my first taste of this. It is unbelievably great. The rating of this great whisky is unfairly lowered by including reviews by idiots that use in to mix with GINGER ALE! For Christ's sake! How would this rate among all the great whiskys of the would if the mixer's reviews were removed? Ron in Texas
After reading all the reviews here and elsewhere and hearing so much about this whisky I finally decided to try it. What a mistake. I was very patient and tried it with all my usual mixers - dry ginger, coke, Irn Bru etc but to no avail. Nothing took away the awful taste of seawater and soot. I really feel conned by these reviews and will never buy this again. I have awarded it one star for the taste and another half for the shape of the bottle
Even if you have not been a fan of peaked whiskies, you might consider trying this. Beautifully balanced. The smoke is ever present but is balanced by vanilla, fruit and oak notes.
