    Ardbeg Supernova 2019 (SN2019) - Committee Release

To celebrate Ardbeg sending some whisky molecules into space back in 2011, the Supernova expression was born! At 100PPM (rather than 55PPM), it's the peatiest expression from the Islay distillery (and the world!), and this here is the 2019 release. The previous Supernova release was back in 2015, so this is quite the treat. This Committee Release has been matured in bourbon casks, and though the whisky has remained in our stratosphere, its flavour profile is out of this wo- Ahem. It's outstanding.

A mellow Supernova, lower ppm infusion of older whisky??

Not as stonily peaty as one would expect for a high ppm whisky. In truth, a bit of a disappointment. Not as peaty as previous versions. Although these whiskies are monodimensional to a certain extent and not deeply complex at all, the market for them is surely the peat heads, who will I suspect be a bit disappointed. I suspect there could be older whiskies in here, which would explain the mellowing of the ppm. The peat is just beginning to metamorph into honey flavours. Hints and only hints of Apple, pear, lemon, vanilla sweetness which starts strongly but subsides rapidly. As to quality to price ratio? Suffice to say I will not purchase another bottle, but still pleasant if disappointing to peat lovers.
