“Probably the best Ardbeg Day release in 6 years. They seem to have got the rubbish releases out of their system now. The charring is evident but comes across as clean, the peat is harmonious and not overpowering. Whilst obvious it’s not of great age, it doesn’t have that young ethanol like kick like Wee Beestie does, I’d estimate this had spent 6-8 years in the cask. If only this was in the core range ?”

Islay's Ardbeg Distillery has gone and aged bottled up some excellent single malt which has been matured in its most heavily charred casks, and appropriately dubbed it Ardbeg Scorch! Almost makes you wonder if they've got a dragon there at the distillery, burninating those casks to get them so intensely charred... Expect robust helpings of smoke and spice from this one.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Roasted barley and bonfire smoke, with a hint of clove to it later on.

Palate

Soot, salty liquorice, a hint of toasted brown sugar adds welcome sweetness.

Finish

A long, richly smoky finish.

Ardbeg at its best

I bought this for a friend for Christmas and he was nice enough to share. Incredible levels of smoke, tastes like a coal fire in a glass. For anyone who likes strong peat flavour, this will not disappoint.

Very solid

Despite increasing costs of these Ardbeg Day releases, Scorch provides value and depth. This is fairly unique, with slight similarities to Alligator. Scorch is a must to try at some point for all connoisseurs.
