    Ardbeg Perpetuum

In 1815, the Ardbeg distillery was founded by John McDougall on the Isle of Islay. In 2015, Ardbeg Perpetuum was released during Fèis Ìle 2015 in celebration of their 200th anniversary. Dr. Bill Lumsden has created a full-bodied Islay single malt, rich in coastal peat, smoked meat and well-rounded vanilla notes, using a blend of whiskies both young and old, matured in both bourbon and Sherry casks. Here’s to the first 200 years - and to the next 200 years too!

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

    Taste to young

It's a great scotch if it were prices 50% cheaper. It tastes way to young to have this status. Unfortunately it cheapens the brand a bit and uses our marketing to sell. How will next years special addition be?

    Marketing Ploy

I'm a huge fan of Ardbeg. One of my favorite distilleries in the world, perhaps my favorite Islay. That said, Ardbeg Perpetuum is insulting. It is extremely overpriced (I paid $115 US), and lower quality than the 10 year. Much lower quality, yet it's considerably more expensive than Corryvreckan ( (which is fantastic). It's simple, uninteresting, probably stupid young, and lacks detail and nuance. A monolith, boring, and hot -- to the point of being unpleasnant -- and falls apart with almost any amount of water. It's offensive that Ardbeg would take advantage of their supporters to this extent. It may be a while before I decide to support Ardbeg again with my dollars.

    Experiment that doesn't pan out

An interesting idea that combines a lot of Ardbeg's signature smokiness with unexpected sweet and fruity notes. If you like the Laphroaig Cairdeas (2014) you'll probably also like this. For me though, the combination is strange and doesn't quite work. The nose is great, but the combination of sweet and smoke just doesn't quite work. There is a surprisingly strong ethanol flavor (at only 47%!) that sticks out. The finish is very dry and quick. It prevents it from being syrupy, but all of the goodness stops as well. It misses the signature long tail. Overall, an interesting attempt at something new by Ardbeg, but not something a need more than a glass of. I've had pretty much everything Ardbeg has produced over the last few years and this comes in at or near the bottom of the pile.

    Astoundingly Good!

if you know great whisky and you love Islay peat and sea salt, you will love this! a Masterpiece!

    My last bottle of Ardbeg

I had great expectations for this one. But.... wow. This is truly an unmatured and low quality whisky. You pay a lot for really bad whisky. My last bottle of ardbeg for sure.
