Powerfully peaty and immensely satisfying, Ardbeg's Corryvreckan is what happens when the distillery of Islay's Kildalton Coast aims to make a whisky with a particularly medicinal style than its usual expressions. Aptly named after a nearby whirlpool, Corryvreckan is an intense dram that we simply love.
Sticking plasters, buttery, creamy, roast chicken crisps, herbal, almost a hint of pine…
Cream, spices, tingling, fresh fruit, medicinal, plasters, Clementines. Orange peels.
Salty, more medicinal, smoked meats, peat is fleeting, tarmac, chilli, salt.
Astonishing.

This is another barnstormer of a dram from Ardbeg. Far less subtle than the sublime Uigeadail this is no less of a single malt. Brash and robust it's a superbly well crafted peat monster. On the nose that familiar freshly cut peat mingles with salty sea air and smoke. Less fruity than Uigeadail with that sticking plaster note that Ardbeg 10 lovers will recognise. On the palate it's strong yet smooth, astringent oak is kept at bay by a wealth of savoury and slightly sweeter flavours. A dark fruit lingers into the finish where the smoke and peat dominate. It feels like you've smoked a good cigar after a dram of this stuff. Overall another fantastic whisky from Ardbeg but loses a point due to the price. Ardbeg isn't cheap by any means and I feel that the prices don't reflect the overall quality of the whisky. For this price you can get far rarer and unique single malts and if Ardbeg feel that asking £65 for one of their core range whiskies is acceptable then I'd have to disagree. If money isn't an option give it a go. It's still one of the very best Islay whiskies you can get in spite of the price.
I really wanted to love this given I adore the 10, Uigeadial and Dark Cove. First thoughts were it's really savoury with the salty briny ham notes and hardly any sweetness. So I put it back in the cabinet and left it for a few weeks to open up. I revisited it with baited breath and again, the same savoury undertones with little to no sweetness. I agree with some of the other reviews. Not a bad whisky just not for me. Feel slightly let down given its the most expensive of the core range. The 10yr old and Uigeadial are the real stars of this distillery. Buy if you want to try something completely different but it's a big price for something that might not be for you. Rob, Somerset
By far the best Ardbeg
its no doubt a great dram, and contains everything you like about Ardbeg & Islay Malts, which I love, but paying something like 40% more over the price of the 10 doesnt get you a 40% better product, not IMHO, & I can put the money saved towards trying something else, but im glad i tried it and did enjoy it, even though wont be rushing to buy another of this expression
Absolutely amazing blast of aroma and flavor. Can there be anything as tasty as a well made Islay? Love its abrasive masculine profile. Wonderfully smoky, peated, salty, and spicy. Let it sit a while in the glass and watch it bloom. No need to hurry. Sip small, sip long.
