Powerfully peaty and immensely satisfying, Ardbeg's Corryvreckan is what happens when the distillery of Islay's Kildalton Coast aims to make a whisky with a particularly medicinal style than its usual expressions. Aptly named after a nearby whirlpool, Corryvreckan is an intense dram that we simply love.
Sticking plasters, buttery, creamy, roast chicken crisps, herbal, almost a hint of pine…
Cream, spices, tingling, fresh fruit, medicinal, plasters, Clementines. Orange peels.
Salty, more medicinal, smoked meats, peat is fleeting, tarmac, chilli, salt.
Astonishing.

Oh man, this is good! On the nose was malt, and a slightly medical aroma. On the palate was a sweetness right off (honey?) , orange, cereal and peat. A complex whisky with very well-balanced elements. And very smooth, considering it’s 57.1 ABV. I am tasting this side by side with the Uigeadail now, and this seems to have less smoke. A long, sweet and peaty finish, with a slight tinge of medicine and malt.
Complex, full, intense flavours: pâtisserie cream, spicy fruitness complemented with an intense woody smokiness. In comparison to the Uigeadail I'd say the Corryvreckan is clearly more complex and at least just as intense in terms of smokiness as well as fruity notes. I've also never had anything like this. Would definitely reccomend this to anyone.
Amazing , starts with malty sweetness and quickly turns to a steak smothered with pepper and ash . The end brings chocolate and more smoke . If your a peat head I can't see how this would not end up in your top 3 .
Quite an unexpected development, the nose didn't really hint at the palate, the finish comes sudden and strong. Excellent at each stage and certainly memorable. Nose: Herbal peat & pine notes. Palate: Sweet fruits, orange peels. Creamy with warming spices. Syrupy mouth feel. Quite unique. Finish: Sudden & strong waves of smoke, chili & meats.
Superior Ardbeg ( from the wonderful 10 year old ) as if that is possible. Goes well with a Vindaloo
