Powerfully peaty and immensely satisfying, Ardbeg's Corryvreckan is what happens when the distillery of Islay's Kildalton Coast aims to make a whisky with a particularly medicinal style than its usual expressions. Aptly named after a nearby whirlpool, Corryvreckan is an intense dram that we simply love.
Sticking plasters, buttery, creamy, roast chicken crisps, herbal, almost a hint of pine…
Cream, spices, tingling, fresh fruit, medicinal, plasters, Clementines. Orange peels.
Salty, more medicinal, smoked meats, peat is fleeting, tarmac, chilli, salt.
Astonishing.

Lacks the balance, complexity and development of Oogy, which is still the flagship bottling from this distillery, IMHO.
I never very much liked the most peated of the Islay malts but this one turned out to be one of the best drams I have ever tasted. Like in the best smoked foods, the tarry taste is beautifully embedded in a complex matrix of something divine, here dried fruit, freshly baked buttered bread and ocean, which perfectly balances it. I find it even more satisfying than Uigeadail. Very easy to get totally drunk on unintentionally.
Bought as a present for my husband. It is his favourite of the Ardbeg whiskies I also got him a bottle of Uigeadail. Corryvreckan is still his number 1!
Far too strong. I'm not a fan of adding water as it changes the viscosity of the liquid. I find it unpalatable and a waste of £70odd
Don't understand some of the reviews here. It's all there, smoke, peat, pepper, fruit, TCP, salt, some sweetness. Really enjoyable dram, like it a lot.
