    Ardbeg Corryvreckan

Powerfully peaty and immensely satisfying, Ardbeg's Corryvreckan is what happens when the distillery of Islay's Kildalton Coast aims to make a whisky with a particularly medicinal style than its usual expressions. Aptly named after a nearby whirlpool, Corryvreckan is an intense dram that we simply love.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Sticking plasters, buttery, creamy, roast chicken crisps, herbal, almost a hint of pine…

    Palate

Cream, spices, tingling, fresh fruit, medicinal, plasters, Clementines. Orange peels.

    Finish

Salty, more medicinal, smoked meats, peat is fleeting, tarmac, chilli, salt.

    Overall

    Astonishing.

    Expectation and experience

Please read the following with a dry sarcasm. "This whisky doesn't taste anything like an experience i had with another product in the past. This whisky doesn't meet my expectation of what i expected it to be compared with judgements based on previous experience. Please read the following after taking a few deep breaths and an open mind. FACT: Today, I tried these bottlings at the Ardbeg distillery warehouse. These bottlings were: 1974 28yo cask 3498. 40.1% 1989 24yo cask 16 52.7% 1975 38yo cask 1379 54.7% Did they taste like other Ardbegs? Did they taste 'Ardbegy' Did they meet expectation? What should ones expectations of these Ardbeg offerings be? Should one have expectations of any future whisky releases? Did any of these taste like an Uigeadail or a Corryvreckan. How does the Corryvreckan rate against a 1974 28yo Ardbeg. Do you know any of the answers to these questions? How much do you know about Ardbeg? How much do you know about Whisky? How much do you know? To others, how objective and valuable are your reviews?

    Solid

This is a sweaty one for certain. Perhaps less complex than it's Uigey little brother, but still a solid choice in its price range. It's hard to go wrong in the Islay.

    A salty Ardbeg.

Not my favourite, great whisky by all means, but I prefer the Galileo and/or the Uigeadail. /mike-stockholm-sweden

    Salt Maple Lemon & Ash

A saltier and sharper Ardbeg. Nose stings; palate sweetness fades to salt and then nuts; back to tang in the finish. Ample smoke. This is a more serious Ardbeg. Bottle aging brings thicker and sweeter vanilla.

    Stunning.

Tried 'em all. Even the 'just re-opened' specials. The unadulterated joys of 'Still Young' on my jaded palette. But for me, this is stunning. Too good for the masses - please keep quiet before it all sells out! My thanks to the sneaky, negative, commentators above - trying to distract you leaving more for them to buy....
