    Ardbeg Corryvreckan

Powerfully peaty and immensely satisfying, Ardbeg's Corryvreckan is what happens when the distillery of Islay's Kildalton Coast aims to make a whisky with a particularly medicinal style than its usual expressions. Aptly named after a nearby whirlpool, Corryvreckan is an intense dram that we simply love.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Sticking plasters, buttery, creamy, roast chicken crisps, herbal, almost a hint of pine…

    Palate

Cream, spices, tingling, fresh fruit, medicinal, plasters, Clementines. Orange peels.

    Finish

Salty, more medicinal, smoked meats, peat is fleeting, tarmac, chilli, salt.

    Overall

    Astonishing.

I would describe it as 'an experience'. From nose to palate to finish, it grips you hard and does not let go. The nose is captivating but not overwhelming. The palate is intense but not harsh. The finish is incredibly long and satisfying, the best in any Islay single malt I've tasted. My absolute favourite way to end the day. My only complaint is the cost. At $190 Canadian, it is on the high end compared to its peers, but that is most likely partially the fault of the LCBO (Ontario liquor board). Well done, Ardbeg.

    It's nice,

but not £72 nice. Very strong smoke along with a briney, woody aftertaste although maybe not as much peat as I expected. Personally I'd prefer Laguvulin 16 y.o. which is 2/3 the price. It's not a bad at all, but certainly not top ten of Islay malts.

    My Goodness!

This Ardbeg would take chrome off a car bumper! It's that strong and confrontational. Definitely for that special time when you need to be smacked up alongside the head and then relax and contemplate how good life is. Very woodsy - peat and brine with a lingering aftertaste somewhat medicinal. Definitely not your average libation.

    Take that......

Holey moley. ....what a punch to the face this is. Still think uigeadail is a better dram and possible even the 10 too. Definitely ardbeg though and still fantastic though I'd probably by a 10 and something else for the cash. Creamy vanilla......smoke.....peat....peat.....peat....maybe some citrus and a touch of fresh lino on the nose too......water rounds it off and makes it more creamy and enjoyable. Long finish on this.......burnt rubber..vanilla again...and citrus.
