What happens when you bring a pit master and master distiller together over a drop of whisky? You get BizarreBQ! It's a first from Islay-based Ardbeg distillery, with Dr Bill Lumsden and DJ BBQ (aka Christian Stevenson) collaborating to produce this barbecue-inspired single malt. In order to create the meaty, smoky, barbecue sauce profile, the pair combined whisky from three casks: double charred oak casks, toasted Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, and barbecue casks (heavily charred casks, custom made using an old-fashioned brazier). And guess what? It's a perfect whisky perfect pairing for all things barbecued.
Deliciously smoky, with maple glazed bacon, molasses, and some earthy herbs.
Warming chilli and dried red pepper spice, meaty Maillard reaction, smouldering bonfire, and cinnamon and clove spice.
Smouldering charcoal and spicy biltong.
This is my return to Ardbeg, went off them after awhile, like Laphroaig, my tastebuds became numb.So many other distilleries creating great blends without the steep price tag, this is overpriced, however,it is delicious.Tarmac and barbecues, yes, very rich, the flavor unfolds. The downside,is this really worth 75 quid?Wee Beastie is half the price,MacTalla Mara is superior and cheaper!
When heard this was coming I was very excited. The thought of barbecue themed Ardbeg seemed new and interesting. On the nose I'm getting bacon and spicy red meat with nice smoke On the palate Mom notes are dead on. Chili or peppers comes strong Finish is quite long and the chili theme is still strong. Italian style sausage thtar has the crisp charcoal surface comes to mind. Weird but that's how I'll describe it. This is one of the smoothest and well balanced Ardbegs I've ever tasted. Such a well balanced whisky. Love it!! Get the grill going and sip on this incredible stuff. 5 stars easy.
