Ardbeg - Batch 5 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)
So bright... so beautiful... ah Ardbeg Batch 5!
The label once again features famous collector Geert Bero, as well as Peaty, our poochie friend from Fèis Ìle 2013. Is there somebody else up there in the rafters though? One of the nesting birds, perhaps a swallow or a house martin? Looks more like a craban though... How far is it from Dunland to Islay?
This is a release of just 23 bottles.
‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains, bourbons, blended malts and blends from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic novel-style labels.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Great depth. initially quite spicy with raw cane sugar, pineapple and beeswax. Then into fudge too, some floral notes... Wow, this is something else.
Palate
Ah, here's the peat, sooty but not overpowering up front before fruit comes back in with honeydew melon as well as a little kiwi and even redcurrant. Spicy Tunnock's Caramel Wafers.
Finish
Treacle sponge with lingering creamy Ardbeg peat. Both fairly light and totally decadent at the same time.
Overall
Sensational whisky, clearly well-matured. We wants it, we needs it...
