Ardbeg - Batch 2 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)

Ardbeg sits on the island’s Southern coast and produces its highly peated malt whisky. Ardbeg closed in July 1996, thankfully the distillery was bought by Glenmorangie plc in 1997 and the distillery now produces some of the most iconic whisky available today. This Ardbeg from ‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ boasts plenty of salt and smoke for all of your peaty needs.

This Label features Geert Bero (perhaps the world’s most famous Ardbeg Collector and proprietor of the world-famous Ardbeg bar at Hotel Bero) looking more than a little like Gollum from Lord of the Rings. What’s he reaching for though? It’s the Ardbeg Spirit Purifier – the device that holds the power to create the delicious whisky he craves. #Precious#.

This is Batch 2 - a release of 422 numbered bottles.

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains, bourbons, blended malts and blends from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic-novel-style labels.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Soapy peat smoke glide off the surface with lemon and peach juice forming up behind. Then there is sweet icing sugar and a little course sea salt for complexity.

    Palate

Exceptional balance on the palate as peat smoke, herbal herbs and salt intermingle pleasantly disguising this drams abv. There is also a residual sweetness that plays off the peat, making for a juicy offering from 'That Boutique-y Whisky Company'.

    Finish

The finish is like a smoky breeze floating across a bay at sunset. Perfect.

    Overall

This batch has a complexity to it where the previous edition was in your face Ardbeg. This is something special.

    Woah Nelly...

This is the most Ardbeg-y Ardbeg I've had. I gave it a generous amount of water and it made a huge difference. After a few minutes I could smell the sweetness and less of the whopping cask strength vapors. Then it had that depth that I love about Ardbeg. Really not overly peaty, contrary to reputation. Huge vanilla, french toast, a smoky campfire, chestnuts roasting. I noticed that it didn't have a huge nose... Wish there was a little more info on the contents but anyway, I'll just imagine that it's a single oak cask switched to sherry for a couple years?

    mmmm

This is quite a sweet expression, there must be some sherry cask in here at some level. Ok guys, please can you tell us what has gone into this, even if its just in vague detail. Id love to know. This is a lovely dram, not overly punchy and the finish isn't as long as i'd like, but it's delicious.

    hell yeah!

Bags of peat and smoke. This is nothing but ardbeg! Sweetness on the nose but the front up taste is all peat. It gives way to some sweetness that you expect on the back of ardbeg. Lovely malt, good balance. Its not going to win any awards but its a cracker and glad i bought one.
