Ardbeg have gone and made a gift pack that both makes perfect sense but you would have never predicted. The Islay distillery has paired a bottle of its marvellous An Oa single malt with a BBQ smoker! To use the smoke, you fill the puck with wood chips and place it at the back of your BBQ grill, then wait until your BBQ is sufficiently smoky, and then place your food around the puck, allow it to smoke out further, and then serve - perhaps alongside a glass of Ardbeg An Oa...
This sweet, creamy Ardbeg offers notes of butterscotch, fennel seed, tobacco leaf, Honey Nut Clusters and hints of mixed boiled sweets (fruit, Everton mint and menthol). The citrus notes are subtle and rich, coming through as flourless orange cake.
Still plenty of peaty oomph, although perhaps lighter in body. Notes of cigars and golden syrup flapjacks with sweet black tea on the tail and hints of chocolate limes.
Smoky treacle lingers with a little peanut brittle.
I love Ardbeg anyway but hadn't tried this one yet and fancied getting the smoker. Haven't tried the smoker yet but loving the whisky. I can never get all the notes I read about but I get a great underlying sweetness with a lovely hit of charcoaly smoke that stays around for a long finish. Love it
