Ardbeg
10 Year Old Whisky
Customer Rating
“I have been enjoying malt Whisky for in excess of 50 years now. For some reason i have always been drawn to Islay. I am currently enjoying a 10 year old Ardbeg. First thing I noticed was the sweetness, quickly followed by smoke and peat. Very smooth as well. I recall D'Arcy Bussell travelling to Ardbeg to sample her Grandfather's favourite tipple. She was escorted by a lady from the distillery to a promontory overlooking the water. Her first sip following taking the nose, initiated a significant cough. Her guide quickly suggested a dash of water, but i think D'Arcy was still struggling, understandably, if you are not used to serious scotch. Her Grandad would have chuckled i suspect. I have sampled every Islay, and have never been disappointed. We here a lot about "bucket lists " currently, a trip to the island is certainly on mine, with a quick trip to Jura for good measure. Don't know if that constitutes a Freudian slip but i won't dwell on that. ”

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
A ridge of vanilla leads to mountain of peat capped with citrus fruits and circled by clouds of sea spray.
Palate
Sweet vanilla counterbalanced with lemon and lime followed by that surging Ardbeg smoke that we all know and love.
Finish
Long and glorious; sea salted caramel and beach bonfire smoke.
Overall
Precise balance, big smoke and non-chill filtered. This is why this is such a famous dram.
