Blasda represents a rare chance to sample a lightly-peated dram from the powerhouse Ardbeg distillery. The malt is peated at 8ppm as opposed to the standard 55ppm.

Chocolate éclair sweets and dry coastal driftwood, toffee and refreshers sweets with but a hint of gentle smoke. Despite these dangerously low levels of peat, this is still characteristically Ardbeg.
By what alchemy is it possible for something to be both so creamy and spiced so? There’s a lovely herbal development and all the time the sweetness of vanilla and peppermint creams with the semi medicinal undertones of Resolve hangover cure.
The minty sweetness of the peppermint creams with an interesting little development of sticking plasters. Comment: It still retains the distillery character. But, whilst a very good whisky, this is not a very good Ardbeg...
Great whiskey and one of my favorites, totally different from the usual heavily peated Ardbegs, unfortunately increasingly hard to find at the second hand market anymore.
This is one of finest whiskeys I've tasted, nice and smokey but still soft and smooth. Please please make some more!
For a lighter whiskey, or for those like my wife who don't enjoy the ashtray licking experience that is traditionally associated with ardbeg, it's a wonderful drink. I tend towards smoke, but thoroughly enjoyed the Blasda. The price turned out to be a little eye watering though, especially as we picked up a bottle for about the same as the regular. R
Not to be judged against other Ardbegs but on it's own merits - in which case I must agree with the 1st comment. Wonderful, comforting malt. Almost buttery. Gentle peat. Long finish will leave you wanting more. I would definately buy a bottle (only sampled 3cl) if i can find one for less than 180GBP. Won't blow your head off - its not supposed to - but does what it says on the tin!
Cheaper for a sample than a full bottle if you price it up £ per litre
