Single cask single malt from the Annandale Distillery, released as part of its Man O'Words series, which lets you know that is this an unpeated expression (the Man O'Sword whiskies are the peaty ones). The Lowland single malt was aged in a single STR ex-red wine cask (STR stands for shaved, toasted, re-charred – a good fact to bring to parties), and has been bottled up at 62% ABV. A drop of water wouldn't go amiss here to help bring out the wealth of vanilla and dark fruit notes on display.
Spiced apple and custard tart, redcurrant, strong cinnamon.
Chocolate digestives, fig, another helping of cinnamon, now with a hint of clove in tow.
Juicy raspberry balanced by drying oak.
Very nice full-flavoured dram. Vanilla, banana and toffee for me with a long finish. and yes I get the spiced apple on the nose. Will take a fair amount of water without the flavour diminishing. Definitely one to replace when finished
