Amrut's Raj Igala is a single malt whisky made with Punjabi malted barley and aged in casks which previously matured bourbon.
Opens with pear and peach. Developing notes of toasted oak stave and vanilla-rich barley.
Honey'd fruit and peat smoke, with a crack of black pepper.
Lasting warmth of peat and a subtly sweet touch of liquorice.
I prefer the Fusion but as a lower price point whisky it's good value. A little harsh to start with, improved by a dash of water. Flavours last on the tongue
After polishing off a bottle of the Amrut Indian Single Malt Whisky (46%) with some friends, which was quite delicious and well balanced, the Raj Igala seems very rough, a little bit bitter, and certainly not up to the standard of any other Amrut whisky I have tried. Quite disappointing I must say...
My 1st Indiana sm taste. Amazing. complexity in thé nose with powerful compote notes and lots of Autumn ripé fruit. Smoke arrives on thé patate alongside thé fruit. Wow. This with à féw more years of âge would be an absolue killer !
I adore Amrut, which was my first Indian whisky and still my favorite. The richness of their spirit is profound and often ahead of other countries in certain innovations. Their whisky is outstanding, but Raj Igala fails to meet their own (high) standards in my opinion. It can be soupy, syrupy but not sweet, thick and cloying yet woody and dull. It's unbalanced at best, and at worst it feels like their leftovers.
We'll worth it. Subtle but very tasty.
