From one of India's most famous whisky producers, this smoky single malt is made from barley peated to 24ppm. It’s punchy but still fruity and malty, with the ABV increased after its initial release to 46% to add more weight and texture.
Sweet cure bacon, smoke, malt, sweet peat, touch of caramel.
Soooo fruity! Peat doesn't even get a look-in. Lots of malt, tart.
Medium, peat emerges as the end, fruit teas.
An excellent nose.

During a recent trip to Scotland (after trying a dram of nearly everything from Highlands to Lowlands and the Islands), I decided to check out a great bar that specializes in Japanese whiskeys. While I had some phenomenal Japanese malts, I was most blown away by this Indian whiskey. I’ve never had such a complex whiskey that was in the sub $100 range. The nose is all vanilla and oak (Amrut could probably market this stuff as a cologne—I spend a solid five minutes inhaling this stuff before I take a sip. The smell also me is intoxicating) with the flavor reflecting the same, with an incredible blend of smoke and sweetness that unfolds in layers after each sip. Probably goes without saying, but this is a high-alcohol, heavy peat cask strength, so a little bit of water really makes it unfold. Can’t recommend it enough—if it was twice the price, I still wouldn’t be disappointed. Exceptional malt for the money; don’t miss this one.
The best whiskey I have ever had.
Amrut do it again. A fantastic Whisky. The peat is gentle and the flavours just keep on coming long after it has been swallowed.
Super
A very nice whisky indeed. Very pleasant and well balanced. Not dominated or overpowered by the peat. The Altitude definitely has an effect on the colour and taste of the spirit. Malt is detectable as are vanilla, caramel and wood spices.
