Fusion is a particularly apt name for this fantastic single malt whisky from Amrut. Y'see, it's made with barley grown in India, where the Amrut Distillery can be found, as well as peated barley from Scotland! Makes sense, right? Not just a clever name, it's also a cracking whisky, offering up generous helpings of fresh fruit, honey, spice and a good whiff of smoke.
Rich, barley, fruity. Big on citrus, spices, creamy sweetness. A hint of peat.
Oaky, rich, gentle peat, coffee, dark chocolate. Fruity.
Long, spiced, marmalade, sweetness.

Fusion is a mix of heated malt from scotland and Indian malt and matured in Amrut distillery. Fruity and equally peaty. Vanilla. Ticks a lot of boxes. For a whisky thats 3.5-5 yrs old, the maltiness & oakiness are good. The complexity that is usually derived out of the malt in the cask maturing for a good long period is missed. But again, there is a high degree of evaporation due to the climate in Bangalore leading to the young age of the whisky. Almost 12% YoY. The 8yr angel's share is simply stunning though its priced much higher but that is something that deserves a 5 star. Tip: Leave the whisky to evolve a bit after opening.
Amrut fusion is a great whiskey that seems to open up even more if you take a while to finish the bottle.
I had this last night at an Indian place in DC - Rasika - and it was surprisingly delicious. One of the best whiskeys I've tried. The nose hinted at the delights within, and the dram itself was sweet and complex, with notes of molasses and a hint of cardamom, slightly oily, soft yet intense. Just perfect really. A wonderful way to end the evening. I'm definitely going to pick up a bottle of this!
I have had both this one and the 43% ABV expression. This was oaky and sharp on the gills. A coupla drops of water made it creamy and sweet. A complex multi-faceted dram. So much better at 43% @ 21 Euros.
