Adnams Triple Malt Whisky is produced in Southwold using a trio of malted grains - barley, wheat and oats. It's then allowed to mature in new American oak casks for five years before being bottled at 47% ABV. You may know Adnams more for their beer, but they're more than well-accomplished at making excellent spirits...
This expression was previously named Adnams Triple Grain No.2 when it was launched in late 2013 as a three year old whisky. The new name (plus slightly longer maturation and higher ABV) was introduced in mid-2016.
Toasted coconut, white grape, foam banana and apricot.
Chocolate orange, caramelised almond, honey and a kick of white pepper.
Continued chocolatey elements, with a touch of bubblegum and charred oak.
I found the nosing notes were spot on, I had clear defined tones of banana and toasted Coconut. The palate I could taste honey and Caramelised Almonds and the finish was indeed okay with hints of bubble gum. For an English Whisky I'm very impressed. Although it wouldn't be a choice if looking for a special Scotch, it's a very delightful and easy to drink whisky. One which I feel should have a home on everyone's drinks Cabinate.
