This is the 9th batch of Casg Annamh from Speyside's Aberlour distillery. The name means "rare cask" in Gaelic and this flavourful expression spent its time maturing in a combo of American oak and sherry casks, offering up rich layers of aromatic spice, fruit cake, and dark chocolate.
Milky coffee, flame raisins and plenty of honeyed malt.
Golden Grahams, nectarines, cinnamon and strawberry jam.

Bought my first bottle in the Edinburgh airport. Liked the taste I had there and love it even more now I have it home. Delicious, smooth.
Absolutely fantastic. Smells like a sherry bomb, and tastes like a sherry bomb, yet doesn't rely on a high ABV to carry the flavour (A'bunadh relies on being cask strength, as without the high ABV it is nothing special).
Absolutely terrible. Smells like old ladies' perfume and tastes like prison hooch/poorly made moonshine. 1 star rating because it at least seems to contain ethanol.
I’m a fan of aberlour and this could be a great dram. For me the nose has got sherry, saltanas and banana (from the bourbon casks). The delivery has got the sherry and spices one would expect. However on second bottle (bought a few last summer) and I can’t overlook the bitter note on the finish - goes beyond a touch of wood. Hopefully the next batch will be an improvement.
Abunadh without the Bomb! Such a quality dram this is. Strong yet subtle sherry notes, not overpowering. Complex yet simple, hard to explain, just go get some and enjoy. Marvelous!
