It's Aberlour's ever-popular A'Bunadh single malt Scotch whisky! Each batch of this single malt is matured entirely in Spanish oloroso sherry butts, bestowing huge helpings of dried fruit and festive spice notes to the whisky, after which it's bottled up at full-on cask strength with no chill-filtration.
Zesty notes of chocolate-coated orange wheels join sticky ginger loaf and sherried fruits.
Plump sultanas, prunes, cakey spice, and marmalade, with biscuity malt and toffee apple in tow.
Sweet spices and rich oak linger.

I began with batch 50, after an old fling with the Aberlour 10-year. (When it comes to scotch, Aberlour rules; it's my favorite.) I've read that there are issues with certain batches and that some batches are better than others, but this batch 50 is pretty darn good. In fact, it's pretty awesome. (And the friends I shared it with would say the same.) I have unopened bottles of the batch 45 and batch 49 waiting in the wings. From their reviews, I can only imagine how good they will be. And there is a local spirit shop that still has four bottles of the batch 50 on the shelf. I think I may have to scoop them up.
I tried this for the first time at the whisky museum in Edinburgh, and immediately dismissed everything else. I'm a whisky amateur, but the complex aromas and flavors, combined with its strength, had me hooked from the first sip.
Just received another three bottles of the batch 53. As soon as I'd sampled this whisky I knew I had to stock up my cellar. This is the best whisky I have tasted, but it requires water to properly reveal its hidden charms. Water and time. After mixing the water - my preference is two thirds spirit with one third of bottled spring water - wait 15 - 30 mins before sampling. You won't be sorry.
Does what it is supposed to, big sherry notes (I'm a Palo Cortado fan so good to me) and dried fruit/cake flavours. Quite easy to drink even at full strength. I wouldn't say it must be a staple in my whisky collection but definitely one you must try.
My first A'bunadh, I hope any future batches I purchase are as good as this. After adding water I definitely prefer without water. Just a monster in every way.
