It's Aberlour's ever-popular A'Bunadh single malt Scotch whisky! Each batch of this single malt is matured entirely in Spanish oloroso sherry butts, bestowing huge helpings of dried fruit and festive spice notes to the whisky, after which it's bottled up at full-on cask strength with no chill-filtration.
Zesty notes of chocolate-coated orange wheels join sticky ginger loaf and sherried fruits.
Plump sultanas, prunes, cakey spice, and marmalade, with biscuity malt and toffee apple in tow.
Sweet spices and rich oak linger.

Picked this up for 35 pounds on offer at a local store. Thanks to the 3rd May review below - on your advice I went for the 55. You can tell quality sherry casks have been used here. On the nose its instantly a big rich sherry bomb. You can smell its cask strength too - theres that ethanol potency you get with a 60% plus dram. There a strong oak presence in the background too which then reveals a kind of tobacco-ey note too - in a pleasant, sweet pipe tobacco way though. To taste, its just as you woudl expect from the nose, very smooth though. Sweet caramelly sherry..very glenfarclas-esque, spicy oak, a tiny (pleasant) bitter edge. A great long finish too - i'm still tasting the sweet notes now, almost tobacco and...carrot-cake! I tend to be a snob and seek out unusual, limited releases, indy bottlings etc as opposed to something of a supermarket stocked dram. This just shows how ignorant I can be. I enjoyed this as much as some of the expensive limited batch Benriachs and Glendronnachs I have for a hell of a lot more money.
Compare to batch 54, the spiciness and fiery are pretty much absent in the 55, very smooth and much easier to have it neat. Sherry note is also more pronounce, slightly more dark fruits and nuttier, it is just as deliciously creamy but slightly longer and bolder finish, 55 also has slightly less cinnamon on the palate. I like them both, 54 has more kick while 55 is more tame, I don't mind stocking up either one as I still have two bottles of 54 and two new 55 in the cabinet. If I could only keep one batch then 55 is definitely my personal preference due to the overall smoothness, and slightly more intense finish.
My husband was introduced to this whiskey a few years ago and loved it ever since ! Although hard to find it in asda tesco or any other store would luv it to be avaliable at all stores !
Once again the taste of chocolate with spice predominates in this batch, love it and enjoy the more subtle dry hint of sherry. A must for the drinks cabinet.
I understand why people like this, but not my thing; too spicy and too much oak.
