It's Aberlour's ever-popular A'Bunadh single malt Scotch whisky! Each batch of this single malt is matured entirely in Spanish oloroso sherry butts, bestowing huge helpings of dried fruit and festive spice notes to the whisky, after which it's bottled up at full-on cask strength with no chill-filtration.
Zesty notes of chocolate-coated orange wheels join sticky ginger loaf and sherried fruits.
Plump sultanas, prunes, cakey spice, and marmalade, with biscuity malt and toffee apple in tow.

Intense and perfect
I bought both batch 55 en 56 to compare. i'll only describe 56 here, ofcourse. Nose: Soft and sweet, candied fruits, nuts, marzipan and chocolate. also some freshly ground pink pepper. Very invating perfume. Palate: The cacao returns and the sherry aroma seems less dominant than in batch 55. Again candied fruits, cedarwood. After a few drops of chilled spring water the palare really opens up and new flavours emmerge. Herbal notes add to the picture. Finish: Longer and fuller than batch 55. Herbs and cedarwood. The bitter hint of really dark chocolate. The peppery aroma also contributes to the finish. In conclusion, i like batch 55 just a tiiiny bit better. I was amazed, however, by how much difference there was in all tree aspects above. i like the nose and finish on this batch better but the flavour palate on 55 makes it win for me, but by a hair. just like that 2% better to me. -SD
One of the best I've ever tasted
This is another excellent value batch of A'Bunadh and represents outstanding value at £47 a bottle which given this is cask strength of 61.2% is the equivalent of about £30 a bottle at 40%. If you're interested in the history of A'Bunadh, check out the Wiki page which reveals the first batches were releases in 1997. Batch #56 continues the tradition of a chocolate and sherry flavoured malt with a very Christmassy dried fruit and a hint of spice. At this strength it needs some water to open it up fully.
