Aberlour is known for producing some of the finest sherry-cask-matured whiskies in Scotland, and this expression is no exception.
Over 18 years of careful aging created this single malt, first in American oak bourbon barrels then Spanish oak oloroso and Pedro Ximinéz sherry butts. The spirit developed a luxurious depth, where notes of raisins, figs, and cinnamon blend seamlessly with a long, honeyed finish. The rich mouthfeel and well-balanced spice make it a dream dram for those who love their whisky bold yet smooth.
Creamy, like melted vanilla ice-cream. Fruity and honeyed.
Fresh juicy apples and oranges before sherry kicks in with supple sultanas and vanilla.
Intricate with chocolate raisins and oily caramel notes.
One of My new favorite
Too sharp for my taste even after water addition down to 35 %. Sweet taste but sharpness over rules otherwise nice fruity palate. E.g. Dalmore is more to my taste in this corner of flavour map.
Best Highland Scotch around, 2 thumbs up!
Fantastic. Smells oranges, vanilla, fruity honey. Hints of maturity. Palate: Matured juicy apples, sour and sweet oranges, apricot compote and the sherry along with remembrance of leather. Creamy, perfect structure. The maturity is very clear. Quite long finish: Cremè brûlée, fruity oaky-ness. Sweet. 43% ABV is enough here, I think. A little spoon with water makes the dram sweeter, more smooth. Plums might appear...
