Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, this is an older bottling of 10-year-old single malt from Aberlour. A perennial favourite, typical of the modern Speyside style and thoroughly approachable. Such is its popularity that this bottling has been exported to over fifty countries.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Sweet and full. Sherried raisins, hints of toffee and a pleasant nuttiness.
Quite full-bodied, spicy rich fruitcake, toffee notes and a creamy malty-feel and the vaguest whisper of something akin to synthetic banana.
Caramel and honey, the malt still evident and the sweet spices still linger.
Lovely and rich.

This is a smooth, deep flavoured whiskey and one of my favourites. I think for the price when on offer it's extraordinary value but even at full cost you will not be disappointed. Not smokey but smooth and unlike Laphroaig, which is another love of mine will not grow hair on your back.
I was introduced to Aberlour with the a'Bunadh Batch #47. It's a fantastic cask-strength whisky (non-chill filtered & natural colouring), I wont review it here. My hopes were high for their young single malt. Full, but little complexity. The rush of wooded-sherry/toffee is quite rough and "casky" if you know what I mean. It does tend to soften if you let it breathe for a bit; a teaspoon of water even at only 40% does open it up and seems to tame the young whisky. Spend another £15 on a bottle of the a'Bunadh or grab a 15yr GlenDronach if you want a good sherried whisky at a reasonable price.
Honest, i agree that this is a reasonable whiskey. It does everything right and doens't take any risk to get exeptional, therefor certainly not a 5 star. This whiskey is everyones friend. You just can't go wrong.
One of the best malts I have tasted
