A classic Highland dram, Aberfeldy 12 Year Old single malt whisky is a creamy, sweet and gently smoky example of what the region produces. Bolstered by plenty of Aberfeldy's signature honeyed fruit character, this makes for a superbly laid-back sipper. The label comes with a rather handsome black and rose-gold colour palate to match the rich, malty, honeyed flavour profile.
Aberfeldy Golden Hot Toddy recipe:
- 50ml of Aberfeldy 12 Year Old
- 1/2 shot of local honey
- 1/2 shot of lemon juice
Combine the above ingredients in a mug and top up with hot water. Garnish with lemon, a cinnamon stick, and some star anise to spread the cheer of this cosy classic.
Creamy. Some sherried fruit with a trailing hint of smoke. Honeyed prunes, custard, and espresso beans.
Sweet, malty, with gentle peat and a mellow, silky texture. Vanilla fudge, peaches and cream, and subtle toasted oak follow.
Ginger, malt, nutty nougat, and maybe a little grapefruit zest.

I have to have a bottle of Aberfeldy at all time. It doesn't feel right to not have one. If you just love Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Etc. etc. Don't apply. This single-malt is simple and yet complex. The smell is fruity pineapple and decay??? I will call this peat. It has some smoke which comes from the peat but is not overpowering or medicinal in the least. Dark Chocolate finish. I love it again! Peace
Visited the distillery for the first time this year, despite visiting the area every year for the past 12 or so. Fabulous experience; a reminder that Dewars deserve a very great deal of credit for having propelled whisky to its current proud position. Aberfeldy is the heart of all Dewars blends, and is rather good as a single malt; really recommend it as a dessert malt, or a sweet nightcap. Nose: Honey dominates. Floral heather and sherry with a suggestion of syrupy fruit. Sweet barley and gentle peat mellowing in the background. Palate: Cereal sweetness and creamy, heather honey really prominent. An implication of peat with fairly robust notes of sherry and fruit. Finish: Sweet malt and honey still dominate. Trace of vanilla, and the mildest hint of spiced currants and peel - like a big, rich Chelsea bun.
Beginners only? Someone's tastebuds must be broken or something. This Scotch is one of the finest examples you'll taste in the 12 yr, $40 range. It has a quality near Suntory Yamazaki and Hibiki who've won global medals year after year. No one here mentions smoke. This whisky has a lot of smokiness, and a mature fine regal flavor.
This is a great Scotch. It has a big taste, but still has a nice subtley. We are in the realm of 'it is a matter of taste' here, but for a strong, direct character which stands up without losing its complexity, I like this Scotch.
I've tried many scotchs' but aberfeldy is damn good. Bought one from London to try and very happy I did cos it's my new whiskey of choice. So smooth and has a sophisticated taste! Try one now!
