Aber Falls Inaugural Bottling Note

Here it is, folks - the very first whisky produced by the Aber Falls Distillery (and in turn, the first whisky made in North Wales in over 100 years!). It was produced using 100% Welsh malted barley, and aged in a combination of American virgin oak, sherry, and (interestingly) orange wine casks. A brilliant expression, and one that was made with sustainability in mind, as Aber Falls has been working with Welsh farmers to use local resources and make sure nothing goes to waste. 2,000 bottles of the Inaugural Release were produced.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Fresh orange peel and juicy mango, with a little hint of grassy meadows underneath.

Palate: Golden syrup cake, digestive biscuit, more tropical fruit notes, and subtle peppery touches.

Finish: A smidge of dark chocolate sticks around.

Reviews for Aber Falls Single Malt Whisky - Inaugural Release
Very drinkable and sweet - quite different!
On a blind taste, I would not call it a whisky. I don’t get much heat, even at 46%. I get a lot of a Southern Comfort taste from it on the palate. But please don’t let that put you off! I think a cask strength version would be superb!

Definitely worth a try, buy it and drink it.
Having lived in the village of Abergwyngregyn a mere 50 or so metres from the new distillery site, I was happy to get my hands on this as a piece of personal local history. Even happier to say that it has a great depth of flavour for such a young whisky. I've not tried orange wine casks before and it does lend a slightly refreshing tinge to it, along with a slight toastiness from the virgin American oak. I'm not a massive fan of heavily sherried whiskys but this wasn't too fruity, for all of that. Very interesting first dram from this distillery.

Buy it if you can - and open it!
So tasty! And a bit quirky with the orange and the spiciness. OPEN!

Buy if you can - and drink!
Was lucky enough to get one and opened it - it is a genuinely good whisky and the subtle orange wine cask influence something different. Hopefully lots are enjoyed and not just collected!
