Thanks to the brave endeavours of some daring distillers, we know that combining real, actual Jaffa cakes with gin and rum has delicious results. The question remains: what about vodka? Well hey, guess what?! It turns out that blending a fab grain vodka with full-on, no-foolin' Jaffa cakes alongside orange, fresh orange peel and cocoa powder also yields a tasty outcome! Jaffa Cake Vodka has great potential for citrusy, chocolatey, vanillay twists on all sorts of classic cocktails, which we're almost certain will benefit from a Jaffa cake garnish...
Massive waves of fresh orange segment jump right out of the glass, with a little touch of orange wine gums too. Sponge cake richness appears underneath citrus, offering a vanilla-rich backbone to the spirit. A little hint of chocolate grows after a minute in the glass.
Chocolate orange notes arrive at full volume on the palate, shortly followed by another helping of fresh citrus juices. Subtle touches of spicy dried peels linger in the background stop it from veering into overpowering sweetness.
Orange Fruit Pastilles, vanilla pod and just a touch of peppery spice last here.
It would be easy for this to be overwhelmingly sweet, but it maintains its pose and manages to not become immensely sugary and sickly.
If you’ve tried and enjoyed the Jaffa Cake gin, then this is an absolute must. Straight out of the bottle it’s like you’ve stuck your head in a bowl of freshly opened Jaffa Cakes. Somehow the Jaffa Cake notes are all there, and even more clearly than the gin. None of the harshness I’d associate with old school vodka either, my other half and I were both sipping this neat quite contentedly. This bottle will not last long.
