Casamigos is the brainchild of three long-time friends who loved their Tequila. Rande Gerber, Mike Meldman and George Clooney (you may have heard of him) enlisted a Jalisco-based master distiller, creating their own private ‘house Tequila’. But it was so good they had to share it, and Casamigos was born.
Casamigos Blanco is a light, refreshing Tequila, made with 100% blue Weber agave grown in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, that has been aged for seven to nine years. The agave piñas are roasted in traditional brick ovens for 72 hours and fermented using a special yeast blend for 80 hours. The Blanco is then rested for two months to give it notes of freshly chopped herbs (think mint leaves), vanilla, and subtle agave. Serve it neat, on the rocks, or in cocktails like a Margarita or Paloma. It also goes great with tonic water.
The nose is creamy, lifted by warm, earthy agave, chilli spice, black peppercorn and vanilla pod notes. It's also pretty green with a mossy character, perhaps damp leaves and freshly cut grass. Menthol comes through too, along with hints of herbal cough sweets – think Ricola. There's also a sweetness, with suggestions of lemon pith and fresh apple. We also picked found a minerality reminiscent of wet stones and rocket leaves.
Initially there was quite a ‘heavy’, oily mouthfeel, and there's a lot more sweetness than you’d expect: vanilla and hints of lemon meringue pie, with whispers of oak influence. The greenness comes through too, with notes of tomato leaf, basil, and fresh mint. Absolutely delicious – very easy to sip and would mix fabulously too.
Long and luscious. The peppery agave goes on and on, flanked by puffs of icing sugar.
An incredibly smooth, supremely balanced Tequila which lies on the sweeter side of proceedings. Both the nose and palate develop beautifully with time. Incredibly easy to sip, yet with enough points of interest to make it inherently mixable. Really rather lovely – George is clearly more than just a pretty face.
I'm a whisky or rum drinker ordinarily. My experiences with Tequila are all with harsh shots like i'd assume is the experience for many people.. Figured i'd try this, have to say, it's bloody beautiful it really is. It's a very relaxing sipping drink over ice and i believe i'm becoming addicted to the classic tequila sunrise. Definitely worth a try. Perhaps the nicest tasting (and most surprising) celebrity endorsed spirit i've had to date.
Tasting this with close attention paid, while reading the MoM detailed notes above, was like reading a film script while watching a movie: everything above (for me, at least) is evident in the drink. The palate is quite surprising, given the nose, and it takes a few sips for them to come together. Nothing to add to the flavour profile note by MoM - it's all there. I think this one might annoy afficionados of traditional tequila, though. The oaky meringuey thing is just not what's expected. Is it good? Yes. Is it what I want? Not 100% sure.
Actually more balanced than I had imagined, its reall not bad. Its a big success because it has a modified taste profile to appeal to a wide (and female) drinker- sweeter and smooth with a low burn finish. Clooney sold out for a billion bucks so it can't be bad...or can it?
a safe smooth commercial tequila of very little character
this is the best tequila ever
