Tria Prima 2 Year Old (That Boutique-y Malt Company)

From Tria Prima distillery comes this single malt Australian spirit. Well, it's a '2 Year Old Australian Single Malt Whisky' by Aus regulations, where maturation rates are faster due to being largely subtropical. But alas, here we are in the distinctly temperate climate of the UK, and three years is the minimum age for a whisky, so a malt spirit this is. The folks at That Boutique-y Malt Company decided a spirit by any other name smells (and tastes) just as delicious in this case, especially seeing as it's been matured in a first fill Tawny cask (that's an Australian fortified wine similar to Port). This limited bottling joins its Return to Oz collection, and features a blue ringed octopus on the label.

Batch 1 is a release of 232 bottles.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Rich and fruity. Plum and apricot with dried fruits, sultanas, raisins, and peel. Sweet caramel toffee with a nuttiness coming through.

    Palate

Rich and mouth filling. Again, quite fruity, with figs and dried plums leading a high cocoa content dark chocolate. There's a spicy, savoury note too, balsamic-BBQ sauce-like.

    Finish

Dried fruits linger with dustings of cocoa powder.

    Wonderfully rich whisky

Wonderfully rich whisky, velvety mouthfeel and full of dried and stone fruits. Surprisingly good balance for a 2 yo and opens up beautifully with a few drops of water. Goes very well with dessert!

    Rich with a little cheekiness

Spot on with the tasting notes Chaps at Master of Malt! It's like an adult wanting to hold on to a little adolescence and happy to display this. Rich and oily with a slight balsamic cheekiness in the background. Figs and plums make good companions in a whisky, especially when sprinkled with cocoa. Loves a little bit of water but I'm then drawn back to just pouring another one straight and savouring it. This whisky is acting like my twin brother who just so happens to have made this! No brotherly competiveness here, just one to enjoy!
