Often mistaken as a sort of Thai whisky, Mekhong is actually made of 95% molasses and 5% rice. A popular drink amongst the tourist of Thailand.
I am 56 years old and not normally a spirit drinker but a friend bought me back a bottle from Thailand and thought I would give it a try well to be truthful wish I had discovered it a long time ago as when I do have a sprit which is not often am always left with a bad aftertaste but not with mekhong so will be adding that to my shopping list from now on
Dinner time? Food is not ready? Pour Mehkong in a wide tumbler with thin walls. Let your hand warm the liquid. Sip. By the the time food is ready, your spirit is...
Best damn Thai whiskey in the Kingdom. A pretty Thai bar girl sitting next to me and a bottle of “Monkey” on the table-HEAVEN!
Love the aromatic!
Agree with WOW and Exotic Masterpiece. I first drank Mekhong 30 years and 2 months ago. I remember it well. We would drink it all night and then starting again at breakfast the next day. We did this for days on end and with no hangovers. There was some suggestion back then of it being laced with opium and that might be right considering some of the strange behaviour we got up too. Just brought a bottle today and drank it with Coke Zero and ice. Same unusual taste that I remember but one that I don’t mind. I usually drink Jim Beam but considering the price of the Mekhong I have no issues in continuing to drink it.
