From the Lyre's folks over in Australia comes a non-alcoholic spirit that would make a great alternative to use in cocktails such as an Old Fashioned or Boulevardier. The brand is named after the Australian Lyrebird, which is renowned for being able to mimic the calls of other birds. Oh, and what's with the bear? The North American black bear was used as the logo for this particular expression as it's made in the style of bourbon. But there's no alcohol here, just to be clear.
Smooth caramel and a hint of oak with a slightly spicy finish.
The product reviews on here are absolutely nonsense. This drink is disgusting and tastes nothing like a malt. It its sickening. Dont waste your money.
Was excited to try this after seeing so many good reviews for it being the ideal replacement for bourbon. Well, it isn’t. The smell alone put me off before I’d even tasted it. Glad I’ve tried it but disappointed I’ve wasted £20+ on it
I'm a regular weekend whisky/whiskey drinker, favouring Irish pot still and Speyside or Highland scotch. I bought this Lyre's non-alcoholic American Malt to give me something to sip when giving the booze a miss for a few weeks. I normally drink neat, small measures of whisky, so I decided not to add a mixer to the Lyre's. It's pretty spicy-tasting neat and not too great that way. However, with a couple of ice cubes in a tumbler, it's more palatable. Taken like this, it reminds me of a cheap rum, with an aniseed/liquorice taste. I do get the caramel flavour, but the overriding aftertaste is pepper (think Dr Pepper's). Being alcohol-free, there's no 'burn' and, with ice, it's like a watery liqueur. If you're trying to fool your brain that you're having a shot of whisky, this isn't an unpleasant product, but if you're looking for something that's a sin-free duplicate of the real thing, this isn't it. I've given it three and a half stars because it wasn't 'throw it straight down the sink' bad and I haven't tried any other alcohol-free 'whiskies' to compare it with.
Absolutely beautiful whisky I when more??.for alcohol free its just like whisky with alcohol ,really nice.
A great non alcoholic substitute! My daughter is unable to drink her favourite tipple at present so I thought I would try Lyre's Non-Alcoholic American Malt, to see if it helped what she was missing. Yes, bravo! With 3-4 cubes of ice, some bitters and a good peel of orange in a whisky glass and then putting in a couple of measures of Lyre's, my daughter exclaimed it was the best non alcoholic drink she has had. I joined her and the caramel and smokiness is there even though the oily feel of a malt is obviously missing. The best substitute we've found, thanks.
