The ever-wonderful Ableforth's is back with a rather indulgent offering - Dark Chocolate VSOP! The warming tipple is made by infusing VSOP Cognac with Criollo cocoa nibs, and this chocolatey spirit is then blended with more VSOP and XO Cognac. The final blend is given just a touch of sweetness before it's bottled, balancing the darker notes of the cocoa. A brilliant sipper for the colder evenings.
Heaps of slightly bitter dark chocolate leaps from the glass, with dusty cocoa, a touch of maple syrup and a hint of sour cherry in the background.
Lots of juicy dried fruit, with a burst of red grape, prunes, a drizzle of honey and melted dark chocolate.
A prickle of spice on a fruity finish, with a burst of raisin and a touch of bitter drying chocolate.
Very disappointing... very... the dark chocolate taste is like cheap nasty wax chocolate...and overall is completely overpowered anyway! I like a variant of spirits.. and Dark Chocolate ones are one of my favourites. This is certainly not for me...doesn’t mix well and should have a smart price sticker on it... very poor taste
This is a real treat - the blending of the sweet Cognac with the bitter chocolate is SPOT ON! Could not be more suited to sipping or mixing. A chocolate cocktail base like no other I have yet found. Delicious.
I was really looking forward to this, dark chocolate and Brandy. Unfortunately whoever chose the balance for "given just a touch of sweetness" has no idea what a quality dark chocolate tastes like. This is more like Rum, or a liqueur, losing most of the Brandy and dark chocolate taste. I think I'll have to mix it with a cheap Brandy or Whisky.
