A 'double aged' rum, although it could be considered to be triple aged. Rums from Barbados and Guyana are matured for five years in the Caribbean before being transported to Jerez where they are further matured in solera systems of Dos Cortados Palo Cortado Sherry casks (exactly the same as the 5+3) and then also Don Guido Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks.
Vanilla, molasses, rich sticky dates and prunes, orange peel, allspice and clove.
£11.98 - £134.00
Aroma vanilla & cloves, hint raisin. Taste adds orange and burned toffee. Long strong finish from sherry cask aging. 8.0
Having tried many whiskies aged in PX or other sherry casks, I wondered how would this translate into rum and - wow! Super fruity, but think not raisins. It is akin to prune compote with wafts of brown sugar and vanilla. Very sweet, yet wonderfully rounded as the finish moves slightly towards dry. You'll need to stop for a bit to discern all the layers of flavour here.
I started drinking rum only a couple of years ago. I definitley prefer dark, fruity, full bodied rums and this hits the spot. Best one I have tried so far and by far the smoothest. I can drink this like a glass of wine, very dangerous!
Such a wonderful rum. Definitely best drunk neat. Beautifully smooth.
Had a sample of this in a box of 5 which my husband rated highly so picked up a bottle for him for Christmas. Lovely bottle presented in a nice box. The rum is smooth and strong on the vanilla, would be nice as a sipping rum. We enjoy it with cola (mine with a big squeeze of fresh lime too) There was a glass tumbler as a gift which wad placed inside the box over the bottle neck, of course when it was delivered the glass was smashed.
