All the way from Jersey comes Tidal Rum, built from a blend of rums distilled in Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and the Dominican Republic. Within this marvellous mixture the folks at Shorts Boy Distillery infuse some oak-smoked pepper dulse seaweed foraged from the tides of Jersey. This imparts layers of savoury, vegetal. subtly smoky elements to spirit - and the result is stunning. Goes wonderfully with soda water, cola, and can even replace whiskey in an Old Fashioned!
Warming winter spices with hints of cinnamon bark and vegetal oak, layers of burnt sugar, coffee and citrus, just a whisper of sea salt.
Surprisingly this is a very good rum. Normally I deplore these commercial spirits which are imported in bulk and then spice (and hyped) up - but this one works. The 'smoked pepper dulce seaweed' can be detected. Which is nice.
Have read various reviews from good to not so good I am keen rum enthusiast and in my opinion this is more than a decent run of mill rum. Light flavoursome and one to be enjoyed with perhaps as little ice. I will definitely restock when my bottle is empty.
I’ve made both a daiquiri and a Mary Pickford with it and they were both delicious and much enhanced by a proper rum! My parents also had it as a version of an Old Fashioned and are similarly singing it’s praises.
Seriously nice. Bought it for the novelty value as like jersey and the idea but it's delicious. Highly recommend
Outstanding rum. As a big fan of rum such as Mount Gay XO this sits right up there. Mixed or as a trad Bajan sipping rum with a lump of ice.
