A superb 17-year-old multi-column still rum from Trinidad Distillers Limited. Nowadays, rum in Trinidad is produced by one large-scale producer, but that wasn't always the case. The story goes that the Fernandes brand was responsible for creating one of the most iconic bottlings of days gone by, from casks salvaged from a fire-damaged warehouse. Once the initial bottles ran out, the challenge of making more arose, so a number of different blending marques were used to recreate the correct profile. This right here is one of those blending marques, it's a heavy-column rum that would likely have only been used in small amounts in the original blend, but here's the opportunity to try it untouched, in all its long-aged glory, thanks to That Boutique-y Rum Company.

Slick caramel and brown buttered bread with honey, meaty notes of honey roasted ham, and some more savoury spice are joined by hibiscus and sweet, floral fruit – melon and citrus blossom with a touch of leather and engine oil.
Bold, sweet, and spicy with dense notes of treacle toffee and oily oak, rich molasses, and cracked peppercorns. There's some chilli flake and root ginger heat, doused with candied pinepple and zesty grapefruit.
Those warming spices linger on the edges while rich, sweet burnt sugar, oily, rubbery molasses, and a tannic oak tail off elegantly.
