This blended rum from Solar features a combo of spirits from the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Column-distilled rums aged three to eight years from Dominican distillers, Alcoholes Finos Dominicanos, are joined by a three-year-old pot still rum from Jamaica. The name of the renowned Jamaican distillery isn't disclosed, but the folks at Solar inform us that it's located in Lluidas Vale, which ought to ring some bells among the rum community. The blend is then enriched with a portion of Solar's eight-year-old Dominican rum, bringing complexity and depth to the characterful layers of caramel, vanilla, and tropical fruit funk.
Waves of sweet toffee and caramel join oaken vanilla, with hints of tropical, funky fruit and sweet spices in the depths.

Wasn't sure what to expect from this new brand Solar. I was very pleasantly surprised. I'm a huge fan on Caribbean island rum, and particularly Dom Rep and Jamaican. Together quite the combination, like a dryer smoother Worthy Park. Tasting: gentle fruit, some grassy funk but never overpowering, pineapple, raisins, some coconut, vanilla, toffee more than caramel, ex bourbon oak finish. Really smooth on its own. Tastes far more premium than the price.
