“Usually go for Highland and Island malts, but fancied something different for a change. After a lot of agonising, being a complete novice, I chose the above. Boy oh Boy it is good. Notes of demerara, sultanas,wood fires, oranges. My palate if far from sophisticated but I got that and lots more. Cannot recommend it highly enough. Enjoy!”

A Navy Strength edition of the classic Smith and Cross Jamaica rum, this stuff is beautiful for sipping neat, and works tremendously well with a couple of ice cubes and a squeeze of lime juice.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Very aromatic and complex with notes of pipe tobacco, dark chocolate, winter spices, hints of dark fruit, as well as fried banana, a little suggestion of foam banana sweets too!

Palate

Thick and rich, massive spice notes carrying forth suggestions of dark fruit, prune, plum wine, vanilla, cedar, unlit cigars, calves leather and musty orange peel.

Finish

Long and very warming with notes of caramel and pepper on the tail.

Great allrounder

More rounded and milder of flavour than white Jamaican overproofs, it stll has plenty of funk and it carries a kick alright. Mixes well - Dark and Stormy, Mojito etc - and plays well with other rums. It's going to leave a clear stamp on any cocktail, and it's de rigeur in a Mai Tai! It's not often what I want to drink neat - it's sharp, bold, rich funk and toffee - but sometimes, it's just what the doctor ordered

Brilliant rare rum.

A beautiful rum packed with everything you could want. Fill a goblet and warm with the hands. Now get your nose in and savour the fantastic bouquet......now taste.....yum yum!!

Avoid

Definitely not a sipping rum. Smelt and tasted of chemicals, very unpleasant. Easily the worst rum I've tried.

This is an absolute masterpiece.

This high-ester beauty, easily competes with bottles twice the price. This is a MUST TRY, if you are into real old-fashioned funky rum. I have to get Caroni or Vellier to beat this.

A real mans rum!!

Wow!!!!, I didn’t expect this rum to be this good for such a value price, it was just an explosion in your mouth!, add 5ml of cool water to take away that fire !, either way this will be a stable in my collection and at 57o proof it’s a surefire bargain!
